Bruiser
October 31 "Rosie... They won't know me. I'm invisible. I've always been invisible." This was an interesting little movie in Romero's filmography. It isn't really talked about that much and the reviews it has gotten over the years hasn't been favorable. After seeing it I honestly think that this movie is underrated. It's one of George Romero's more unique films as it mixes horror elements with a whodunnit story. It was a really interesting idea that was executed very well. In terms of horror it's not particularly scary, but the mask the main character has does creep me out. This movie isn't for everyone and the reception it has isn't surprising, but if you're a huge fan of George A. Romero's work, I'd give this one a chance. I wasn't planning to end the month with this movie, but I didn't feel like watching another movie to end it on nor did I feel like watching Halloween like I do every other October. This horrorfest didn't quite turn out the way I wanted and I didn't watch that many movies compared to last year or the year before, but then again, quality over quanity. Most of the movies I watched this month were good and in the end that's what really matters.

Silver Bullet
October 27 "I mean, uh, what the heck you gonna shoot a .44 bullet at anyway... made out of silver?" "How about a werewolf?" This was a really fun werewolf movie. It had some really good effects, a good sense of humor and Gary Busey's character was really enjoyable. It's far from being a great movie as in terms of things like writing it could've been polished more, but for what it is, it's a entertaining movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and is worth checking out.

The Town That Dreaded Sundown
October 21 "Texarkana today still looks pretty much the same. And if you should ask people on the street what they believe happened to the Phantom Killer, most would say that he is still living here... and is walking free." This was a decent slasher film. It did have an interesting story to tell and it was executed well. The narrative it had was also interesting and is what gives this one it's edge. On the other hand it does fall under standard slasher territory and while it may be one of the earlier examples of the genre, it hasn't really aged well compared to something like Halloween. Still it was a good movie and it is somewhat overlooked, so I'd easily recommend it if you haven't seen it already.

The House That Dripped Blood
October 18 "That's what's wrong with the present day horrorfilms. There's no realism. Not like the old ones, the great ones. Frankenstein. Phantom of the Opera. Dracula - the one with Bela Lugosi of course, not this new fellow." I didn't know this was an anthology movie going into it so for a while I was a little confused, but after I did find out I didn't really think it worked as an anthology film. Most of the stories weren't really interesting and the only one that I really enjoyed was the last one. This movie still had it's moments and Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee are great in their respective roles, (Even though they weren't in the same segments, unfortunately.) but I do think it had potential to be better than it was. Especially considering the fact that Christopher Lee happened to be in the weakest story which is a shame.

Creature from the Black Lagoon
October 16 "I can tell you something about this place. The boys around here call it "The Black Lagoon"; a paradise. Only they say nobody has ever come back to prove it." After seeing this, I gotta say that this is one of the best Universal monster movies. It had great dialogue and characters and the creature himself was pretty badass. It was a highly entertaining movie and it's easily a classic in my book.

The House on Sorority Row
October 15 "You're the last one of your friends alive. You're the bait." I wasn't expecting much from this other than a fun slasher, but it doesn't even work as that. For the first half I didn't care for any of the characters and the second half was mostly dull. The acting was pretty cheesy and the kills were pretty standard, but there really wasn't anything I outright disliked about this movie other than a couple stupid character moments. It's a slasher flick that's merely servicable, but there are much better slashers out there that are more entertaining than this one.
