"Why gamble with money when you can gamble with people's lives? That was a joke. All right, I'll tell you. I believe in the notion that people are innocent until proven guilty. I believe in that notion because I choose to believe in the basic goodness of people. I choose to believe that not all crimes are committed by bad people. And I try to understand that some very, very good people do some very bad things."
It took me way too long to see this movie, but I finally did and it was fantastic. The story was very dark and uncompromising, the writing was brilliant and Edward Norton delivers an amazing performance and Richard Gere is great too. I loved everything about this movie, but there is one minor problem I had with it. I did manage to figure out the twist to this movie, so when it was revealed I wasn't too surprised. In this case though I can forgive that since Edward Norton still carries that scene very well and even though I had a hunch that he wasn't innocent this whole time I still think it's a better way to end the movie instead of the cliche happy ending with him being innocent all along. I think that's a sign of a great movie where it's so good that I don't even care that I figured the twist ending out.
